「50イングリッシュ」の50の例文で How come を使用した例文があります。
How come you are not wearing a yellow uniform today?
意味は「どうして今日は黄色のユニフォームを着てないのですか？」なのですが、勝手に「どうして今日は黄色のユニフォームを着て来ていないのですか？」だと思っていました。どうも訳がしっくりこないので本を見直してみると「どうして」となっていました。ググってみると下記のような説明が見つかりました。

先週の学習記録です。
英語耳で有名な松澤喜好先生が「挫折なしで英会話ができる「英語耳」9つの法則」の中で多読のおすすめとしてあげていた「Holes」を読み始めました。
実は多読を始める前に買っていたのですが、挫折して Penguin Reader Level0 から多読を始めました。Level 4 まで Penguin Reader を読んでみてそろそろ読めるかもと思い、１年ぶりくらいに読んで見たところ分からない単語はかなり多いですが、なんとかストーリーは終えているので読んでみることにしました。

先週の学習記録です。
今週から「50イングリッシュ」で勉強をしています。今日、50の基本文を暗記し終えました。
この本の暗記の仕方は独特で基本となる絵が5つあり、それぞれの絵に1〜9までの番号が振ってあります。基本の絵が0となり、一つの基本の絵で10個の番号があることになります。そしてそれぞれの番号に対して基本の英文があり、絵に関係したかなり変わったストーリーがついていてそれに関連して覚えるという方法です。

スティーブジョブズのスピーチの暗唱を一通り終え、現在は毎日覚えたスピーチを復習しています。で、次の暗唱として「50イングリッシュ」をやっています。
この本は50の基本文を覚えて、それを応用して英会話をするという趣旨です。副題が「この「50の基本文」を死ぬ気で暗記せよ！」です。2004年頃に結構売れた本らしいです。私がどこでこの本を知ったのかはっきりと思い出せませんが、ブログか本かで紹介されていたのだと思います。

先週の学習記録です。
いよいよ、最終日です。今日は以下の最後の部分を覚えました。所要時間は30分ほどです。
Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.
Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

今日で今月が終わりですが、予定通り終わらせることができませんでした。あともう少しなのでやってしまってもいいのですが、記憶が曖昧なのも嫌なので完全に覚えられたところまででやめておきました。
When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960’s, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.
